Advanced Chinese — Reading and Writing I
CHIN 441 (3) – Term 1 (3hrs/week)
Dive into the Chinese literature. CHIN 441 is an advanced language course for heritage students focusing on Chinese literature work and analysis in modern Chinese. The course engages in reading and writing at an advanced level and strengthens students’ linguistic competence through expanding vocabulary; introducing advanced Chinese grammar and rhetoric; developing the students’ abilities to read and analyze modern Chinese prose, essays and short stories; as well as comprehensive training of Chinese writing. .This course corresponds with the ACTFL Advanced-High Level Language Proficiency.

The course engages in reading and writing at an advanced level and strengthens students’ linguistic competence through expanding vocabulary; introducing advanced Chinese grammar and rhetoric; developing the students’ abilities to read and analyze modern Chinese prose, essays and short stories; as well as comprehensive training of Chinese writing. .This course corresponds with the ACTFL Advanced-High Level Language Proficiency.

Dive into the Chinese literature. CHIN 444 is an intensive course for heritage students who wish to focus on Chinese literature work and analysis in modern Chinese in a shorter duration. The course engages in reading and writing at an advanced level and strengthens students’ linguistic competence through expanding vocabulary; introducing advanced Chinese grammar and rhetoric; developing the students’ abilities to read and analyze modern Chinese prose, essays and short stories; as well as comprehensive training of Chinese writing. This course corresponds with the ACTFL Advanced-High Level Language Proficiency.

Present yourself in Chinese. CHIN 445 is an advanced Chinese course for heritage students focusing on polishing students’ speech writing and presenting. The course shifts from daily conversation to formal public speech language aiming to systematic introduction to public speaking skills; three rounds of speech practice; one round of impromptu speech; basic knowledge and techniques of argumentative composition; and five to six argumentative composition assignments. This course corresponds with the ACTFL Advanced-High Level Language Proficiency.

Intensive Business Chinese
CHIN 438 (6) – – (6hrs/week)
CHIN 438 is an intensive advanced Chinese language course designed for heritage students who are interested in doing business in Chinese-speaking communities (including China , Taiwan , Hong Kong , and Singapore ). (Non-heritage students are required to have equivalent Chinese language proficiency to register this course.) Students learn specialized business and economic vocabulary and conventions of business interaction and correspondence. Practical business-focused reading, writing, discussion, and presentation will be organized to build up students’ comprehensive abilities as a preparation to participate in various business activities and to deal with different business documents.
